655 more people die in Spain, tally is now 4,089

MADRID, Spain – There has been a dramatic 19% rise in coronavirus deaths in Spain in just 24 hours.

655 people died overnight taking the death toll in the country to 4,089.

One piece of good news was that the 655 new deaths, was slightly below the 738 number of a day earlier.

The capital Madrid is the Spanish city most saturated with the virus. It currently accounts for nearly a third of the cases in the country.

Catalonia is also becoming increasingly infected, having reported 11,592 cases.

Spain, line many countries has declared a national state of emergency. On Thursday night this was extended to 12 April.

Europe is in a state of siege due to the virus. Country leaders will assemble on a conference call on Friday to confer over the developing crisis.

Russia is the latest country to go into lockdown.

Moscow on Friday announced all restaurants, cafes, shopping malls and stores will close on Monday.

President Putin has ordered the entire country to take a week off, while commencing Friday all international flights to and from the country are banned.
