BATHURST, Central West, NSW – A 25-year old Kelso man who drove erratically before colliding with the flagpole outside Bathurst police station last month, admitted at the time he was high on ice. He was also on parole.

Sean Hagan formerly of Kelso, who has been in jail since being charged on July 14, was sentenced on Monday to 10 months in prison and had his driving license suspended for 12 months.

Bathurst Magistrate Michael Allen heard how Mr Hagan had driven the wrong way around a roundabout, had driven on the wrong side of the road in a reckless and dangerous manner, had mounted the footpath, and how he had ended his erratic driving by colliding with the Bathurst police station’s flagpole, which was snapped in half. The man then barged into the police station screaming “I’m going crazy on ice.”

When police arrested him they found a 20-centimetre blade knife tucked into the front of his jumper.

When his car was searched police found another five knives and a hockey stick.

In sentencing, Magistrate Allen noted Hagan’s admission of guilt but said a custodial sentence was necessary as the man had posed a danger to the community.
