LITHGOW, Central West, NSW, Australia – A tragic crash in the Central Tablelands has resulted in the death of a 13-year-old boy. The incident occurred around 6pm on Friday, night, along the Great Western Highway in Bowenfels, about 3km south of Lithgow, 150 kilometres west of Sydney, NSW Police confirmed in a statement.
Emergency services were called to the scene following reports that two pedestrians, a 13-year old boy, and a man, 24, had been struck by a vehicle.
Bystanders administered CPR to the 13-year-old boy until NSW Ambulance paramedics arrived. He was taken to Lithgow Hospital in critical condition and later airlifted to Westmead Children’s Hospital, where he later died.
The 24-year-old man sustained minor injuries and was treated at the scene.
The driver of the vehicle, a 45-year-old man, was unharmed and was taken to Lithgow Hospital for mandatory testing.
Officers from Chifley Police District established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist police. A report will be prepared for the coroner.
